Omar Enrique Alfanno Velásquez is a Panamanian singer-songwriter of Latin music who is most active in the salsa and merengue genres. Reuters noted him as “one of Latin music’s premiere songwriters and the man behind countless hits”. He has composed for musicians like Tony Vega, Luis Enrique, Melina Leon, Jerry Rivera, Victor Manuelle, Gilberto Santa Rosa, and Marc Anthony. Omar Daniel (born 1960) is a Canadian composer and pianist, and an associate professor of composition at the Western University. Early life and education Daniel was born in Toronto, Ontario, of Estonian descent. He earned a Doctor of Music from the University of Toronto where he was a music composition pupil of John Beckwith. Career In 1997 he won the Jules Léger Prize for New Chamber Music for his Zwei Lieder nach Rilke, a work for soprano and chamber ensemble. At about that time he created a number of compositions for guitar which were performed at the Winnipeg New Music Festival and recorded by classical guitarist Rachel Gauk. In 2003, he taught musical theory and practice at The Glenn Gould School in Toronto. In 2007 he received the K.M. Hunter Artists Award for classical music. He served on the faculty of Wilfrid Laurier University, and later became an associate professor of composition at the Western University. Hakim temporarily replaced the band’s then-permanent drummer Terry Williams, who had been sidelined and released from the recording sessions by producers Mark Knopfler and Neil Dorfsman, as his drumming performance was felt to be unsuitable for the desired sound of the album after most of the album tracks had been recorded. Omar Pitras Waqar (born December 8, 1980) is an American musician and songwriter based in Washington, D.C. Joseph Hercule Omer Létourneau (13 March 1891 – 14 August 1983) was a Québécois pianist, organist, composer and orchestra conductor from Saint-Sauveur. Early life and education Though born in Québec proper, Létourneau studied organ and piano with of Joseph-Arthur Bernier in Saint-Sauveur, Quebec. Career Létourneau won the Prix d’Europe in 1913, and travelled to Paris, France to perform on piano and organ. At the beginning of World War I, he returned to Quebec and became organist of the St-Sauveur of Quebec Church, a position he held for many years. In 1917 he directed the production of L’Accordée de village in the Auditorium de Québec in Quebec City which included performances from singers such as baritone Joseph Fournier de Belleval. After the war he went once more to Paris to complete his studies, then returned to Quebec. He founded a magazine, La Musique, and opened a music store, La Procure musicale.
