Zubin Kanga (born 1982) is an Australian-born pianist, composer, and musicologist based in London. He specialises in contemporary and experimental music. Early life and education The son of Rustom Kanga and Marlene Kanga who are both engineers, Kanga was born in Sydney and attended Sydney Grammar School until 2000. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 2006 before moving to London in 2007, where he is still resident. Kanga studied under Rolf Hind and attended the Royal Academy of Music, receiving an MMus in 2009 and a PhD in 2014. Career Kanga has been an active chamber musician since joining Australian contemporary music group Ensemble Offspring in 2005 at the age of 22, of which he remains a member. He played with the Marsyas Trio between 2017 and 2018, during which time they recorded In the Theatre of Air, an album of music by women composers for piano, flute, and cello. It reached #7 in the Specialist Classical Charts and was named on Sequenza21’s “Best Chamber Music CDs of 2018”. Zulema de la Cruz Castillejo (born 9 March 1958) is a Spanish pianist and composer. Life Zulema de la Cruz was born in Madrid and studied at the Madrid Conservatory for piano and composition and Stanford University in California for composition and computer music, with professors including Carmelo Bernaola and Ramón Barce. She continued her studies at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University with John Chowning. After completing her studies, she took a position as professor in Electroacoustic Composition at the Madrid Conservatory in 1988. She has also taught at the Cuenca Conservatory, the Carlos III University of Madrid, and others. She was instrumental in establishing and has served as director of the Research Laboratory for Computer and Electroacoustic Composition (LICEO) at the Madrid Conservatory. De la Cruz has performed with Sax Ensemble since 1993, and also with Fundación Sax. She has also served as director of music festivals and on boards and advisory committees, including Consejo Nacional de La Música of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture. Zulya Nazipovna Kamalova (; ; 8 August 1969 – 18 September 2024) was a Russian-born Australian singer. She resided in Australia though toured Europe frequently. Life and career Zulfia (Zulya) Kamalova was born in Sarapul but grew up in Tatarstan and began performing and writing music at age of 9. She was of Volga Tatar background. She left home at the age of 17 and eventually moved to the City of Perm to work in a factory and study English and French at the Perm Pedagogical Institute. Zulya and Andrew settled in Coburg in 2005, where their daughter, Zifa was born in 2006. two days before her sister Alfia arrived from Russia to see her. Instrumentation typically includes accordion, double bass, percussion, guitar, brass and string arrangements and occasionally jaw harp.
